Levisticum officinale - Herbaceous perennial herb. Full sun to part shade. 1.2 metres height. Edible leaves, stalks and stems, with a celery like flavour and aroma. Can be used as a substitute for celery in cooking. The root is also cooked and used as a vegetable and the seeds are used as a spice. . Prefers a rich, moist, well drained soil. Mulch well in hot weather. Umbels of yellow flowers, in the spring. An easy to grow plant, that is very hardy. The roots, leaves and seeds are used medicinally.
