Coix lacryma-jobi - Perennial. 80-100 cms height. Full sun to part shade. Very ornamental plant. Produces edible and medicinal grains. The seed is eaten cooked, or can be ground into a flour. Used in traditional Chinese medicine. Grows in most moist soil types. Grows in most soil types. The seeds are also used in arts and crafts, a favoured material for making rosary beads. Not frost hardy, but can be over wintered in a greenhouse. A good forage and fodder crop for farm animals. The grain and the leaves can be fed as fodder. The foliage can be harvested several times per year.
