Maranta arundinacea - Herbaceous perennial, edible plant. 1-1.5 metres height. Also a medicinal plant The starchy roots are the source of arrowroot flour. The tuberous roots are edible. Arrowroot like a rich, well drained soil. The leaves can be grazed by or fed to livestock. Clump forming growth. A very ornamental plant. Not frost hardy, we move ours into the greenhouse in the winter.
